FULLY GUIDED BIRD TOURS SOUTH AFRICA:

Fully guided bird tours South AfricaWe are a specialist tour operator and focus on personalized trips making sure you enjoy your time with us. Look at what our clients have said about us:

"Patrick was an exceptional guide, not only on account of his unique knowledge of birds, but especially because of his personality, friendliness and truly indefatigable endeavour to ensure his clients a holistic and optimum experience of the Cape nature and social conditions. In addition to pleasant and considerate driving he provided us with the best accommodation, meals and wine! To the last minute we were taken care of. Thus I can give Avian Leisure my warmest recommendations!"
Dr Kim and Sunneva Frost, Denmark

"Many thanks again for an absolutely fantastic trip. The birding was amazing, the accommodation throughout incredible and the food out of this world. Add the awesome mammals and spectacular scenery and all in all this trip was probably the best either myself or Brian have been involved in. We really can't thank Patrick enough for sharing his incredible knowledge of all things to do with the natural history of the area, and for being an incredible guide and jolly good company!!!"

Itineraries:
Designed around YOUR PERSONAL TARGET REQUIREMENTS so that you get the trip you want without compromise.

Accommodation:
We believe the accommodation should add to the overall enjoyment of the trip rather than just provide a place to sleep. Our personal recommendations reflect this philosophy. We use Guest Farms and B+B's as near as possible to 'top' birding localities. The hosts have an appreciation of the environment and understand the needs of visiting birders. Meals often reflect traditional fare. Accommodation is costed on the basis of 2 people sharing a double or twin room with en suite bathroom. Single supplement options are available.

Transport:
For guided trips we use a comfortable vehicle with plenty of room for birders' luggage - all those scopes and cameras! On day trips we use our luxury 4x4 and on longer trips a minibus and trailer combination.

Guides:
In most cases Patrick will be your guide. If he is not available, we will appoint a qualified and experienced guide of our choice.

Rates:
In general we do not run scheduled tours, and costs depend on the tailored itinerary agreed and the number of people on the tour. Please contact us for a quote based on your specific situation. Guiding rates using your vehicle are also available.

Where To From Here?

So you like our style and want to do a trip with us - what is the next step?

We suggest you review our Sample Itineraries to give you an idea of our approach and focus. Then to initiate the process complete the Enquiry Form or Email Us with your requirements, rough or specific, e.g. Places you want to visit, Target Species, Dates and Time available and budget available. We will revert with a personalised outline which we will amend in response to your feedback. Once you are happy we will prepare a comprehensive proposal including quote.

To confirm your booking, we require a 30 percent deposit with the balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. And we do the rest all the bookings and payments for accommodation, airport transfers, car hire and guides.

This process is exactly the same for all our trips.

Example of an itinerary for a fully guided private tour :

Our brief was that a couple want to visit South Africa some time in Nov/Dec. Mr Paren is mad keen on
photography and Mrs Paren is a very keen bird watcher. They want a trip starting in Durban and ending
in Cape Town, concentrating on wildlife but also staying in establishments that serve good food and
wine and have time for R&R too! They have 11 days available.
