DAY 1 – 3: ROVOS RAIL JOURNEY FROM PRETORIA TO VICTORIA FALLS
This two-night adventure begins as the train departs Rovos Rail's gracious station at Capital Park in Pretoria. This special journey departs in the morning and slowly meanders north towards Bela Bela, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn just after the station of Soekmekaar. Once over the Soutpansberg mountains, north of Makhado we enter Baobab country. Few sights are more evocative of primeval Africa than the eerie silhouette of a Baobab tree starkly outlines against a ruddy African sunset. South African border formalities will take place at Musina and then, very slowly over Beit Bridge, the train will ease itself into Zimbabwe.
Continue in a north-westerly direction passing through Thompson's Junction and Hwange Game Reserve where we enjoy an early morning game drive. Journeys end is the incomparable Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River.
DAY 3 – 5: TONGABEZI LODGE, ZAMBIA
Spend 2 nights at Tongabezi Lodge on the Zambia side of Vic Falls with trips to the Falls, game drives in the area and a sunset cruise on the great Zambezi. Tongabezi is an exclusive and romantic lodge beautifully positioned on the Zambezi River
DAY 5- 7: DUMA TAU, LINYANTI WILDLIFE RESERVE, BOTSWANA
Shared light aircraft transfer from Livingstone to Kasane.
Shared light aircraft transfer from Kasane to Duma Tau
Overnight Duma Tau x 2 nights
DumaTau is a 10-roomed luxury tented camp located in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve in northern Botswana.
The camp is built on raised boardwalks under a shady grove of mangosteen trees, overlooking a large hippo-filled lagoon on the Linyanti waterways. Activities are diverse and allow guests to spend time on the water (if water levels permit this), on land and occasionally on foot. Huge herds of elephant congregate in winter along the waterways and lagoons and at waterholes that are located along the Savuti channel. Also during these dry months Sable and Roan traverse the flood plains. All the predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog feast on the prey species in the area including impala, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, lechwe, tsessebe and other plains animals.
DAY 7-9: XIGERA CAMP, OKAVANGO DELTA, BOTSWANA
Shared light aircraft transfer from Xigera Camp to Chitabe Camp
Overnight Chitabe Camp x 2 nights
Xigera is a luxury tented camp situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
Enjoy a true Delta experience while you sit back in a mokoro (dug-out canoe) and silently glide through the tranquil Okavango waterways or watch the sunset and birds gliding home to roost from a motorboat on the Xigera Lagoon. When water levels permit, game drives (usually September to April) allow the opportunity to observe wildlife and the unique delta scenery from the comfort of a land-rover. And for the more adventurous we can track animals on foot.
The wooden footbridge, a unique feature to Xigera, connects Xigera island to the next and is often used by Lion and Leopard moving between the islands allowing guests great viewing opportunities. Birding in the area is excellent, with Pels Fishing Owl, Slaty Egret, Wattled Crane, African Skimmers and a host of eagles, vultures, raptors and kingfishers to be found. The area has the highest density of the rare Sitatunga antelope found anywhere in the Okavango Delta.
DAY 9 – Connect with homebound flight or onward travel arrangements
Shared light aircraft transfer from Xigera to Maun
Duma Tua and Xigera are 2 of the Wilderness Safaris Tented Camps in Botswana.
