Depart for the West Coast Park via a number of localized birding sites. Botanically the area will be at its floral best with much on offer to dazzle the eye ! Shorebirds will be returning from the northern hemisphere and a number of hides on the Langebaan Lagoon will be visited for close up views. Travel north to the Berg River estuary and coastal bays in the vicinity of Cape Columbine . Overnight in a delightful B&B in the picturesque fishing village of Paternoster. |
| Day 2 9 Aug |
Set off early for Ceres and the Tanqua Karoo beyond where you will search the open plains and rocky ridge lines for a suite of Karoo 'specials' resident in this semi-arid and fascinating environment rich in succulents and botanical appeal. Overnight at a game lodge under star studded skies in this remote and relatively undeveloped part of the country. |
| Day 3 10 Aug |
Full day spent on a circular drive through the Tanqua Karoo with a picnic lunch in a shallow gorge on the eastern edge of the Cedarberg Mountains . Return to the game lodge for the night. |
| Day 4 11 Aug |
Depart for Swellendam (Overberg) via two spectacular mountain passes that cut through the Cape Folded Mountains to the lush sea facing slopes in the vicinity of the Grootvadersbosch forest reserve. Overnight at a guesthouse on a working farm adjacent to the forest reserve. |
| Day 5 12 Aug |
Full day spent birding the forest and adjacent coastal plain in search of target species. Overnight back at the guesthouse. |
| Day 6 13 Aug |
Travel westwards to Hermanus birding en route. This is one of the best areas for whale sightings. Overnight in Hermanus |
| Day 7 14 Aug |
Explore Harold Porter and the Betty's Bay/Rooi Els coastline for Cape Rockjumper, as well as Helderberg Botanical Gardens before returning to Cape Town |
