The Jewel of Namibia Tour – the best of Namibia

In September 2012 Avian Leisure ran a highly successful tour from Cape Town to Namibia, show-casing the very best of Namibia. And the group of North American naturalists led by Patrick Cardwell loved it for its diversity, magnificent scenery and multitude of wildlife and nature experiences

This 16 day tour started with a charter flight from Windhoek to Sossusvlei to view the magnificent dunes in the Namib Naukluft Reserve. One of the highlights of the tour was the bush dinner served here under a clear and star-studded sky! The group then continued by bus to Swakopmund to explore the wonders of the Namib desert, from Sidewinder snakes and Legless lizards to the bizarre Welwitchia plant. Next stop was Cape Cross at the start of the Skeleton Coast with its rather pungent seal colony, and then on to the Brandberg in Damaraland to search (very successfully) for the nomadic desert-adapted elephants.

The highlight of any Namibian tour must be Etosha Game Reserve, and it did not disappoint this group. Almost daily sightings of Lion and Elephant, as well as good views of Leopard and Wild Cat, Black and White Rhino and hundreds (if not thousands) of plains game at the waterholes made this a very special part of the tour.

The Waterberg Plateau was the final destination before returning to Windhoek for the flight back to Cape Town. See  some of the comments from participants on the tour at
