Sometimes heard but seldom seen. The Cinnamon-breasted Warbler is rodent like in its behaviour, favouring boulder strewn, thinly grassed slopes within a dry and sparsely vegetated environment in the heart of the Great Karoo. As such it represents an integral part of what is still a relatively uninhabited interior in central South Africa, extending into southern Namibia.
This endearing warbler’s strident and repetitive song at first light in the morning is key to locating its presence in suitable dry habitat as indicated.
Patience and a keen eye to detect its almost ‘rockjumper’ type of foraging behaviour are key to obtaining a good view of this often sought after, but seldom located target bird of the Karoo.
