Penguins are without doubt the most entertaining and endearing members of the bird world.
Not only this but the fact that they are so confiding adds to their gnome-like comical appeal and drawcard attraction within ecotourism circles and marine parks throughout the world.
For the two of us, we have had the pleasure of engaging up close with several species within the global penguin community from the Galapagos Islands to the Antarctic circle and several incredible penguin breeding sites in between.
Yet it is here back home at ‘Avian Leisure’ in Simon’s Town directly below our guest house along the boulder strewn shoreline of Burgher’s Walk that most of our penguin time has been spent enjoying the behavioural antics of these now sadly endangered seabirds as a result of environmental pollution and other factors.
‘Penguin Town’, just released by Netflix as a six-part documentary series, brilliantly embraces the very essence of what the intimate world of the African Penguin is all about and, as such, constitutes a ‘must see’ wildlife documentary for young and old nature lovers to enjoy in the comfort of the home.
